Vintage Chat Noir Spiral Notebook - Ruled Line
Spiral Notebook with cover featuring Tourneé du Chat Noir de Rodolphe Salis (1896) by Théophile Alexandre Steinlen.
Rodolph Salis founded the Chat Noir (Black Cat), the first modern artistic cabaret, in Montmartre, northern Paris, in 1881. The cabaret was a favourite of the area's artists, writers, and bohemians. Starting in 1892, Salis organised a traveling company of performers from the cabaret to tour during the summer months. The poster by Théophile Steinlen, one of the artists whose career started at the Chat Noir, created this poster design for an early tour by the traveling company. Steinlen produced images of cats and cancan dancers for the Chat Noir throughout the 1889s and 1890s.
